Biography
Thomas Gamble Pitcher graduated from the United States Military Academy and embarked on a long career in the Army, seeing duty in the Mexican War and later rising to brigadier general during the Civil War. He led troops with steady discipline and took on organizational roles that helped to ensure the volunteer regiments remained well-supplied and ready for duty.
In the postwar decades he continued to serve his country through inspections, training, and mentorship of young officers, and he is remembered at Arlington National Cemetery for a life devoted to the nation’s defense.
