Thomas Gold Alvord

Biography

Thomas Gold Alvord (1810–1897) combined enterprise with public service, becoming a successful businessman before turning to the duties of elected office. He championed fair commerce and vital infrastructure projects, notably supporting canal improvements that benefited farmers and cities alike.
