Biography

Wheelock G. Veazey, born in Vermont, rose through the Union cavalry and became a brigadier general whose leadership at Gettysburg and in later campaigns showcased his resolve and concern for his men. After the war he helped lead veterans’ organizations and remained a voice for those who had worn the blue.

He later served in the federal government and on the bench, continuing to defend the principles he had fought for during the conflict, and Arlington National Cemetery preserves the memory of his dedicated public service.
