Biography

William Johnson, born in 1855, was a career Army officer who spent the early years of his service on remote frontier posts, helping to safeguard settlers while cultivating the professionalism that would be demanded in the modern conflicts to come.

In the latter part of his career he provided steady leadership to training units and garrisons as the Army prepared for overseas commitments, and his 1903 interment at Arlington National Cemetery honored a life spent in uniform.
