William Merritt Chase was a luminous figure in American art, celebrated as an Impressionist painter, devoted teacher, and founder of the Chase School of Art. His luminous canvases and plein-air works introduced modern techniques to students across the country, and he played a central role in shaping the artistic life of New York City and beyond.
