William P. Corcoran (1798–1888) was a prominent banker and philanthropist who left an indelible mark on Washington, D.C. He founded Oak Hill Cemetery, establishing a serene burial ground that became a final resting place for many distinguished Americans. Corcoran also founded the Corcoran Gallery of Art, a major cultural institution that reflected his deep commitment to advancing the arts and education in the nation's capital.
