Zachariah Cantey Deas, born in 1819, served as a military officer in one of America's most trying chapters, guiding his men with discipline and a deep sense of duty.

After public service he returned to civilian life where he supported veterans and local commerce, and he now rests at Woodlawn Cemetery amid the calm of the Alabama landscape.
