Biography

Ammiel J. Willard rose through military ranks to serve the United States with distinction during turbulent times, marked by the Civil War and the need to rebuild afterward. His leadership reflected a steady temperament and a dedication to the rule of law.

In retirement he was recognized for his lifelong devotion to the nation, and when he died in 1900 his remains were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, where his participation in the service of the Republic is honored.
