Immigrant

Biography

Born in Ireland, Annie Moore became the first immigrant processed through Ellis Island on January 1, 1892, carrying the hopes of her family and the countless others who would follow through the island's gates; she traveled with her two younger brothers, Philip and Anthony, and her arrival marked a new chapter for American immigration.

She later settled in New York City, raising a family and remaining a touchstone for the immigrant story, while generations afterward her legacy is remembered with quiet reverence at Calvary Cemetery.
