Charles McEwen Hyde

Biography

Charles McEwen Hyde (1832-1899) brought the compassion of his calling to the Hawaiian Islands, serving as a missionary pastor, educator, and advocate for the spiritual life of the community. His writings and sermons reflected both scholarship and an abiding care for men, women, and children across the islands.

He helped establish theological education, mentored younger ministers, and his legacy endures among the congregations he nurtured, with his grave standing in Oʻahu Cemetery.
