Elizabeth Kekaaniau

Biography

Elizabeth Kekaaniau (1834–1928) was a Hawaiian chiefess whose life bridged traditional Hawaiian culture and the changes ushered in during the 19th century. She took part in efforts to preserve her heritage while also engaging with the evolving political landscape of the islands.

Buried at O'ahu Cemetery, she is remembered by those who value Hawaiian history for her steadfast commitment to preserving identity and serving her people with grace.
