Biography

Francis Asbury Roe’s naval career included service in the Mexican-American War and distinguished action during the Civil War, culminating in his promotion to rear admiral. His steady leadership on blockading and coastal operations helped secure Union successes at sea.

Roe continued to serve in the Navy during Reconstruction, offering wisdom shaped by decades of maritime experience. Arlington National Cemetery now holds his remains, a reflection of a life lived in defense of maritime freedom.
