George W. Davis, born in 1824, served as a Confederate officer and was respected for his calm judgment in the field, where he bore the heavy responsibilities of command with a steady hand.

When peace returned he resumed the practice of law, remaining a reliable presence in Virginia’s legal and civic communities while offering measured counsel to those around him.
