Biography

Henry Martyn Whitney, born in 1824 to missionary parents in Honolulu, returned from studies on the continent to devote himself to the press; he co-founded the Pacific Commercial Advertiser and used his ink to chronicle the Kingdom's growth while advocating for education and civic responsibility.

Through decades of reporting he sought to bring voices together, preserved early Hawaiian history and inspired new generations to engage in public life, leaving a legacy of thoughtful service before his rest at O'ahu Cemetery.
