Henry Y. Satterlee devoted his life to the Episcopal Church, drawing on a deep theological grounding to nurture congregations and to organize a new diocese at the dawn of the twentieth century.
As the first Bishop of Washington, he envisioned the city’s cathedral as a spiritual lighthouse and set in motion the planning and fundraising that would eventually give rise to the Washington National Cathedral, leaving a sacred legacy that continues to inspire visitors and worshippers alike.
