J. Floyd King

Biography

J. Floyd King, born in 1842, served as an Army officer during the Civil War before committing himself to Reconstruction-era duties and the long peace afterward. He carried forward the discipline of wartime service into every post he held, never losing sight of the citizen-soldier’s responsibility.

He later combined his military experience with civic service, and his steady stewardship of troops and communities continues to be remembered with reverence by family, friends, and those who honor him at Arlington National Cemetery.
