Biography
Joseph Rock was an Austrian-American botanist and explorer who devoted his life to studying the landscapes between the Himalayas and the Pacific, traveling through Yunnan and Tibet to document plants and cultures that few Westerners had seen.
His richly illustrated reports and serialized National Geographic articles brought far-off regions into vivid focus, while the specimen collections he assembled continue to inform botanical research and inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
