Biography
Lyon Gardiner Tyler (1853–1935) served as president of the College of William & Mary and as a tireless historian who preserved and promoted Virginia's colonial heritage, guiding the college through a crucial period of renewal.
His love of history and education inspired countless students and readers, and he remained dedicated to ensuring that the stories of early Virginia endured for future generations; he is interred at Hollywood Cemetery, close to the communities that benefited from his leadership.
