Milton Cogswell

Biography

Milton Cogswell (1825–1882) was a dedicated military officer whose steady leadership during the Civil War helped maintain discipline and morale among the troops under his command. He rose through the ranks of the Regular Army, earning respect for his calm judgment and attention to the needs of both soldiers and the communities where they served.

In the years after the war he continued to serve the nation, carrying forward the traditions of duty and restraint that defined his career. He now rests at Arlington National Cemetery, remembered for the quiet professionalism with which he helped guide the Army through a momentous period.
