Biography
Robert Newman served as sexton of Boston's North Church during the Revolution, and on the night of April 18 he hung the lanterns in the steeple that signaled the British advance to patriots across the river.
His discreet vigilance and faithful care of the churchyard testify to the countless unsung patriots whose quiet labors upheld the struggle for independence.
