Biography
Hannah Mather Crocker was an author and educator especially noted for her writings that defended women’s moral and political rights, and she engaged with the currents of republican philosophy to argue that women should share in the civic virtues of the new nation.
She also sustained philanthropic efforts in Boston, corresponded with leading thinkers of her day, and left a record of a woman who combined intellect with generous service, a legacy preserved at Copp's Hill.
