Biography

Sarah Barker Sigourney Cushing belonged to a family rooted in Boston's civic life, and though written records are scarce, her life was framed by devotion to kin and to the same community that honored her family name.

In repose at Copp's Hill Burying Ground she shares space with founders and laborers alike, and her passing in 1825 testifies to the endurance of Boston women living through times of revolution and rebuilding.
