Biography

Rutherford Trowbridge was a landowner whose life encompassed the Revolutionary era and the formative years of the American nation. Born in 1744, he came of age during a time of great upheaval and opportunity in Connecticut.

Trowbridge maintained his family's property interests through a period of dramatic historical change, living to the age of eighty-one. His burial at Grove Street Cemetery reflects his importance among the landed families of Connecticut.
