Biography
Sherrard Clemens (1820–1880) was a gifted lawyer and eloquent speaker who represented his native western Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives. Though the nation’s politics were turbulent, he remained committed to thoughtful debate, to the rule of law, and to ensuring that his constituents’ voices were heard.
He returned to private practice with a deep affinity for his fellow citizens and their hopes for a peaceful future, leaving behind a reputation for integrity and thoughtfulness before being interred at Calvary Cemetery.
