Biography

Walter H. Stevens, born in 1827, had established himself as a skilled engineer before the war and brought that expertise to bear on behalf of the Confederacy. He supervised the construction and maintenance of key rail lines, helping to keep Southern supplies moving even as Union pressure mounted.

After the war, he returned to civilian engineering work before passing in 1867. His burial at Hollywood Cemetery recognizes the logistical talents he lent to the Confederate cause and his quiet dedication to his profession.
