Henry Heth

Biography

Born into a Virginia family in 1825, Henry Heth graduated from West Point and served with the U.S. Army before the Civil War, then led infantry in the Army of Northern Virginia where his steadiness and stubborn courage marked every engagement he fought.

After the war he remained in Richmond, applying his organizational skills to railroad and coal enterprises while also supporting fellow veterans and mentoring younger officers as they adjusted to peace.
