James Campbell
1826–1900 (age 74)
Biography
James Campbell, an Irish immigrant who arrived in the islands in the mid-19th century, built a sugar enterprise and irrigated vast tracts, turning windward land into a productive valley that supported thousands of workers and families.
He devoted the fruits of that labor to hospitals, schools and other foundations that still bear his name, a commitment to community development remembered alongside his burial at O'ahu Cemetery.
