Miriam Simon Gratz was a merchant of considerable standing in her community during the late 18th century. As a woman engaged in commerce during a period when such pursuits were uncommon for her gender, she demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen.
Gratz's legacy reflects the contributions of early American merchants who helped establish trade networks and economic foundations for their communities. She was interred at Mikveh Israel Cemetery, one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the United States.
