Biography

Samuel D. Sturgis, Jr., born in 1861 into a storied military family, carried forward that tradition of service while adapting to the Army's new demands at the turn of the century.

His insistence on disciplined fairness won him the respect of both enlisted men and fellow officers, and he now rests at Arlington National Cemetery among the honored dead.
