Biography
Varina Anne Davis was born in 1864 and spent her childhood amid the trials of a nation divided, growing into a poised young woman who balanced public attention with deep loyalty to family, especially her father, Jefferson Davis.
In later years she took up the pen to record the Confederacy’s story, supported her own household through the uncertainties of Reconstruction, and carried herself with a quiet dignity that drew others to her until her death in 1898.
