Biography

Chief Hiram Kahanawai was born in 1835 into a time of both continuity and change for Hawaiʻi. He upheld the responsibilities of his chiefly lineage with dignity, supporting the needs of his people while also engaging in the evolving structures of government.

Remembered for his steady demeanor and sense of duty, his life is cherished at Oʻahu Cemetery, where his presence continues to inspire respect for traditional leadership.
