Biography

James B. Ricketts (1817–1887) served with distinction as a Union general during the Civil War, leading brigades and divisions through some of the war’s fiercest battles. His courage and tactical care earned him a reputation as an officer who could be relied upon when the fighting grew most dangerous.

After the conflict he continued to contribute to the Army’s work, applying his experience to the rebuilding of the peacetime force. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, where his service and sacrifice remain honored by future generations.
