John C. C. Sanders

Biography

John C. C. Sanders, born in 1840, rose rapidly through the Confederate cavalry ranks, showing both aggressive initiative on the battlefield and thoughtful concern for the welfare of his troopers.

He was mortally wounded in 1864 while engaged in operations in Tennessee, and even as the war pressed on he was remembered for the gallantry and compassion with which he led.
