Biography

John Rogers Cooke, a West Point graduate, served as a Confederate brigadier general whose leadership in the Army of Northern Virginia saw him through many hard-fought campaigns, always mindful of the weight of command and the welfare of his men.

Following the war he took comfort in family life, devoted his efforts to veteran causes, and sought to guide younger generations with the same sense of duty that had defined his military service.
