Leonard Gansevoort was a merchant of note in Albany during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His commercial ventures contributed to the economic development of the region during a period of significant growth and change in New York's trading networks.
Gansevoort's mercantile activities reflected the importance of commerce in early American Albany. He was interred in Albany Rural Cemetery, a burial ground that honored the city's most respected merchants and civic figures.
