Biography
Samuel Swinfin Burdett, born in 1836, answered the call to arms in the Civil War and brought that sense of duty into public life, advocating for the rights of freedmen and the needs of frontier communities. His courageous service in uniform informed every debate he entered as a member of Congress.
After his time in office he remained a champion of equality and fairness, continuing to serve his country with humility and earning a place of honor among those laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
