Biography
Born in 1802, Walter Gwynn trained at the United States Military Academy and spent decades applying his engineering talents to the nation’s roads, rivers, and harbors, becoming a trusted advisor on infrastructure projects across Virginia.
When war divided the country, he directed fortifications and rail lines for Virginia and later devoted himself to peacetime engineering, leaving a legacy of careful service before he was laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery.
